Friday Fisticuffs: St. Louis Cardinals Edition

lilithnews.com
Welcome to the first of hopefully many Fisticuff Fridays! Each Friday Mark and I will face off in some sort of contest that divides readers at greater than Democrat vs. Republican levels. This week we play "closest to the pin," predicting what some of the Cardinals stat lines will look like at the end of the year. We may or may not have also predicted Mr. Pujols end of the year results. Cause they're hilarious ... -ly bad ... for him. I miss you Albert.

Mark

Molina - .310 AVG, 16 HR, 68 R, 82 RBIs
Reasonably consistent hitter in the prime of his career. Showing much better pop in recent years.
Freese - .285, 29, 70, 106
Could go nuts if he stays healthy physically and mentally. I went conservative on average a little crazy on RBIs and homers.
Furcal - .305, 9, 98, 58
Putting together a possible career season at age 35. Crazy. I like him to score a ton of runs.
Craig - .288, 20, 28, 67
Health is biggest issue. When he's been in the lineup, he rakes. Mostly depends on how many games he actually plays.
Beltran - .296, 35, 85, 120
Could break down near the end of the season with a bad knee, but he's shown great stuff the first third of the season. I'm keeping the faith.
Pujols - .270, 27, 75, 101
After an atrocious start, Albert is smelling blood in the water. Sure to heat up in the summer and play in more games due to the DH in the AL.

Wainwright - 3.70 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 14 Wins
Will find groove. Numbers won't reflect how dominate he will be in the second half.
Lynn - 3.20, 1.20, 14
Has five solid pitches to keep hitters off balance. Capable of some good things in the majors. Pretty conservative guesses, given his start.
Motte - 3.00, 1.00, 30 (saves)
I don't have as much confidence in him as some people. But he should get a decent number of saves and keep the hits down. Worry about the walks.
Westbrook - 3.90, 1.35, 12
I could be generous with the ERA, but he's a veteran who will bare down and gut through the tough times. Hopefully, he'll keep that weight off.

John

Molina - .313 AVG, 17 HR, 70 R, 73 RBI
Yadi has looked great at the plate this year, continuing his play from last season. As a number 6 hitter, these are some great numbers.
Freese - .278, 27, 70, 98
Health is an issue. Expect him to go on at least one DL stint due to being trampled by the entire female population of St. Louis. They love him in a Bieber fever-like fashion.
Furcal - .300, 10, 104, 60
He's played less than 100 games in 3 of his last 4 seasons, but should be a scoring runs right and left in this lineup if healthy.
Craig - .305, 25, 35, 73
In his young career, Craig has hit a home run every 18.5 at bats. Ken Griffey hit a home run every 17.9. This doesn't mean Craig is a future Hall of Famer. It does mean that his young career has shown he has elite home run hitting ability when he's healthy. If he can get 500 AB, he should be able to crank out about 25 home runs.
Beltran - .285, 35, 84, 111
He's on pace for MVP numbers. I don't think he'll get the at bats to do it, but it'll be an incredible season nonetheless.
Pujols - .278, 29, 67, 89
What do you predict here? I was lucky enough to watch the guy hit .300, 30 hr, with 100 rbi like clockwork every year. If there's anyone who can start the first 6 weeks of the season hitting .200 with 4 home runs and turn it into .290, 30, and 90 ish, it's him. Problem is he's never had to do that, because he's never started like this. He doesn't look comfortable. Poor Albert.

Wainwright - 3.55 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 13 Wins
He looked pretty good Tuesday night, eh?
Lynn - 3.40, 1.18, 14
He's this year's Kyle McClellan, and he's fantastic.
Motte - 2.42, .89, 33 (saves)
I think Motte is one of the best closers in the league, and feel more comfortable with him closing the game out than I ever thought I would. He used to illicit an "oh no, not Motte," out of me every time. Now that's reserved for Victor Marte.
Westbrook - 3.72, 1.35, 11
I hated the Westbrook for Ludwick trade then, and I hate the contract he has now. However he's been solid thus far, and will hopefully remain a solid back of the rotation pitcher.
